Cave dwellings in Bulgaria

To our knowledge, there are no real houses dug in the rock in Bulgaria. Nevertheless, there are wonderful orthodox rock monasteries located in this country. Monk cells and churches are carved into the cliffs. The most famous site is the complex dug in the valley of Russenski Lom, known as the Ivanovo Rock Churches and included in the UNESCO list of world culture and historical heritage. Scattered across the country, there are other rock monasteries and many chapels dug in the rock or installed inside a natural cave.
