The neighbouring bakery discharged its wastewater in the cavity during some thirty years. For that reason, on our first attempt to explore the galleries we gave up because of a pestilential smell and a thick pasty deposit. Two years later, after connection to the sewerage and long ventilation, we were able to explore this ring-shaped underground, sinking into the black organic mass that occupied the galleries and contained an impressive number of rose earth worms; Region of Blois (France), March 1997.
